Join the Authority A clear standard creates a starting point for conversation—not a substitute for the complexity of a vineyard, a cellar, or the people behind them.
The Natural Wine Score makes its published categories visible: farming; sulfur dioxide and additives; native yeast and enzymes; fining and filtration; and social impact. Together, these areas offer a vocabulary for talking about a producer's practices.
How do you manage the vineyard? Consider chemical inputs, soil care, biodiversity, and farming methods.
How are sulfur dioxide and other additives used, if at all?
What role do native yeasts and enzymes play in fermentation?
Are wines fined or filtered? Describe your approach.
How does the winery support its workers, community, or local ecosystem?
These category weights explain how much each area contributes to the published score. They do not, by themselves, describe every question, eligibility rule, conditional branch, or scoring calculation. See the methodology paper for background.
